[Event] Global Day of Remembrance of Heroes and Martyrs in the Resistance Against Mining, Oil and Gas- November 10, 2011

November 10.

On this day in 1995 Ken Saro Wiwa and 8 of his comrades were hanged by the Nigerian government of trumped up and unfounded charges because of their struggle against the destruction wrought by the oil extraction operations of Shell in the land of the Ogonis in the Niger delta.

To this day, the list of community rights defenders, human rights advocates, environmentalists, and social activists killed in the course of their struggle against mining, oil and gas around the world continues to grow longer.

On November 10 we take time to honor the lives and struggles of these heroes, our fallen comrades, during the Global Day of Remembrance of Heroes and Martyrs in the Resistance Against Mining, Oil and Gas.

So wherever you are please light a candle, read a poem, post a picture, say a prayer, sing a song, hold a ceremony, hang your banners …  any heartfelt remembrance action will mean a lot … on November 10.
